Why Commit to the Web

According to Forrester Research*, 23.1 million out of a total of 75.9 million on-line households are now accessing the web via broadband connection. These high-speed consumers are better educated, have higher incomes and are more web-savvy than the average internet user. This segment also is the fastest growing logging over a 22% increase over the previous year.

Specifically Forrester cites that these fast access users earn 27% more and spend 52% more time on-line than their slower connectors. The upshot for business is more business for the site owner willing to make the right investment of money, time and creativity in promoting their goods and services via this increasingly important, and lucrative channel.

The (Key) Words We Choose

If you have a web site and are concerned about your ranking in the search engines, take a moment to think about the key words and phrases you use to attract the attention of search engine users. The question to ask is, "Do these terms reflect how I (the ultimate insider's) see my business or how my customer would describe his or her need. For instance, part of my business is building ezines for my clients - ezine is a fairly new term that combines 2 words*, electronic, or email, plus magazine. Now if I want to attract more prospects in search engines I might be smarter to think about, or ask, my clients how they describe their needs. They might use electronic newsletter or email newsletter since 'ezine' is more of an insider's term and many business people may be unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the term. So ask yourself what problems are my customers seeking and choose your key words & phrases accordingly.
